COPENHAGEN STUDIOS in support of UNICEF

#strongtogether

Under the hashtag #strongtogether we at Copenhagen Studios started a campaign in support of UNICEF. For us, it is important to promote not only environmental sustainability, but also economic and social sustainability.

Children around the world are facing huge difficulties. Climate change in particular is one of the key challenges of our time, and education is essential for children to become more resilient. For the past 75 years, UNICEF has been working to ensure that every child can develop healthily, grow up in a protected environment and go to school.

That’s why we launched the #strongtogether campaign in support of UNICEF to work together to make the world a better place. The campaign supports the project “Living Schools – Promoting sustainable climate change action for resilient learners in Malawi”.

Situation in Malawi

Malawi has been repeatedly hit by extreme weather conditions in recent years especially since 2014. Droughts and floods alternate and are hardly predictable, making it difficult for people to prepare for them.

Environmental pollution and consumption of natural resources threaten the social and economic development in the country.

To improve the situation for children, UNICEF in collaboration with partners has launched the “Living Schools” programme, which creates better educational opportunities for children while securing water supplies for the schools and the surrounding areas.

What can UNICEF achieve with the help of supporters like us?

In collaboration with Malawi’s Ministry of Education, UNICEF helps provide schoolchildren, teachers and community with the knowledge and tools to help them become more resilient to the threats of climate change.

This includes the development of healthy school environments, access to clean water and sanitation and support for environmentally conscious practices. For example, the children actively participate in planting vegetable gardens and fruit trees at schools. The trees provide shade and serve as shelter during storms and floods. Through the school gardens, students learn the importance of incorporating healthy foods into their daily lives. They are responsible for the gardens, so their sense of responsibility and self-esteem is strengthened. The children’s parents can also be actively involved through the gardens, which in turn strengthens the relationship between the communities and the schools. The experience promotes the environmental, social and physical wellbeing of the school community and fosters a better understanding of how the natural world sustains us.
